Long Term Care is an individual health policy designed to provide benefits on an expense incurred, indemnity, or prepaid best basis for necessary care or treatment of an injury, illness, or loss of functional capacity. Provided by a licensed health care provider in a setting other than an accute care hospital, for at least one year after a reasonable waiting period determined by individual need from your personal physician.
Long term care can be provided in a skilled nursing facility (i.e. hospital), rehabilitation facility (i.e. nursing home), or custodial nursing home (i.e. assisted living).
Long term care offers a variety of services such as home health care, services such as speech and therapy, and other home care services. Respite care allows family members a break from their care giving responsibilities. Hospice care is provided at home or in a facility for terminally ill individuals with 6 months or less to live. Skilled nursing is care that is supervised by a doctor or registered nurse in a facility that provides lodging and recording of health information, dietary needs, and more.
